The Roman Tripartite Goverment
Rome figured out that their king, Tarquinius Superbus, was different from the others. He stole from his people and ignored their needs. So they got rid of him. After that they decided to form a republic. They made it tripartite, meaning it had three parts, so that the power was limited to each part of the government so no one had absolute power. There was the Consuls, the Senate, and the Assembly.
The Consuls:
The roman consuls took the place of the king. Two were elected each year.`Consuls commanded military forces, proposed laws, and acted like judges.
The Senate:
The senate advised the Consuls. It was made up of a group of 300 leading men.
The Assemblies:
The Assemblies helped make laws for Rome. All adult male citizens were part of it. They gathered in circular and open air structures.
